Located in the heart of Amish country in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Lititz is THE place to be if you like peace and quiet and hate fighting heavy traffic. Founded by members of the Moravian Church, the strong German heritage is still visible throughout the town, which has a population of around 10,000 residents.

Lititiz: History, Entertainment, and More

Lititz is a very beautiful town, mainly because it is dedicated to maintaining its rich history, appearance, and friendliness. The town has historic buildings with gorgeous architecture standing side by side, brick sidewalks, old–fashioned gas lamps that line the streets, and shops with ice cream cones, handcrafted treasures, artisanal soaps, unique souvenirs, the world’s coziest socks, hand–carved wooden spoons, and so much more. Lititz has been receiving a lot of notoriety lately by various travel magazines, such as “One of the 16 Most Beautiful Towns in PA You Should Visit,” “9 Gorgeous Towns in PA Perfect for Stress–Free Weekend Drives,” “8 Scenic Day Trips that Will Make You Fall in Love with PA,” “10 Gorgeous Towns in PA That are Perfect for a Wallet–Friendly Day Trip,” and “11 Quaint PA Villages Worth the Road Trip.” Notice the references to “beautiful,” “gorgeous,” and “road trips.” No wonder—it is the retention of history.

  • Lititz Spring Park: A 7–acre oasis right in the center of town with natural, bubbling springs, ponds, ducks, ancient trees, and plenty of benches for people watching.
  • Linden Hall: Founded by the Moravian Church in 1746, it is the nation’s oldest all–girls boarding school.
  • The Julius Sturgis Pretzel Factory: Founded in 1861, it is the oldest pretzel–making factory in the country.
  • The Wilbur Chocolate Company and Retail Store: Founded in 1894, you can watch candy–making demos and sample their famous Wilbur Buds (little chocolate drops that locals proclaim came before the Hershey–shaped kisses).
  • The Lititz Springs Inn: Originally built in 1764 as a tavern and remodeled 3 times since, this 4-story hotel is still in operation.

And the food! Lots of traditional Pennsylvania Dutch cooking, The Tomato Pie Café, the Italian Ices & Homemade Ice Cream. Yes, Lititz is a mandatory road trip.
