Back in November of last year, we had briefly discussed some of the finer attractions of East Stroudsburg, but we felt these (plus a few others we didn’t mention) deserved much more detail. East Stroudsburg is located just 5 miles (well, east obviously) of Stroudsburg. East Stroudsburg is located 42 miles northeast of Allentown and 75 miles west of New York City. East Stroudsburg is the larger of the 2 towns, as it has a current population of 8,626 residents, while Stroudsburg sits at 5,761 residents. Both have seen a noticeable decline in population over the last 5 years, with East Stroudsburg having a decline of almost 11%, while Stroudsburg has seen a decline of about 3%. Much of this is due to the lack of non–tourism and resort-related employment opportunities available, as both are beautiful towns located in the vast Pocono Mountain region.

More Great Things to Do in East Stroudsburg

Elaborating on some of the great attractions in the East Stroudsburg area:

  • Shawnee Mountain Ski Area: Shawnee is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary and is kicking off the celebration for the upcoming season by sharing throwback photos, videos, and stories on their social media. Primarily a skier’s and snowboarding paradise, Shawnee Mountain now has 125 acres of skiable terrain, 23 trails, 2 innovative terrain parks, night skiing, and a high–speed chairlift called the Tomahawk Express.
  • The Pocono Snake & Animal Farm: Established over 50 years ago as a refuge for exotic animals, it is a unique mini–zoo. There are a variety of animals, including pot–belly pigs, goats, alligators, huge snapping turtles, several species of rattlesnakes, many species of venomous and non–venomous snakes, a Reticulated Python, and more. The zoo is also interactive, and features up–close viewing and safe feeding opportunities with certain animals.
  • The Pocono Indian Museum: The main building was originally built in 1840 and was refurbished in 1976 to become the home of the museum. The museum traces the history of the Delaware (Lenape) Indian dating back to 10,500 B.C., and includes items such as: peace (prayer) pipes over 150 years old, artifacts over 800 years old found intact in a farmer’s field, weapons, tools, and more. There is also a 3-story gift shop that sells Native American jewelry, pottery, gifts, moccasins, shirts, and countless books on all subjects dealing with Native Americans.
  • The Frazetta Art Museum: Situated on the original 67–acre estate, the museum is home to the largest collection of original Frank Frazetta artwork in the world. The museum houses approximately 40 original oil paintings, along with countless pencil, pen and ink, and watercolor works. There are also many of his personal items, such as his camera collection, sports equipment, easel, and palette, providing a rare glimpse into the artist’s life and creative process.
  • Great Bear Golf Club: Designed by the “Golden Bear,” Jack Nicklaus, Nicklaus took the natural advantages of the property to integrate 3 lakes, several streams, wetlands, small bridges, and rolling terrain, and created a course that is not only challenging, but also a visually stunning experience.
